Communities are the threads that make up the American Flag

I am often asked why I think it is so important to get involved in community outreach and local politics. I believe that every small town represents a thread in the American Flag. It is our responsibility to keep the integrity of that thread strong by standing up for what is right and just. When the thread is frayed because of corruption, greed, and injustice then the entire flag is at risk of becoming frayed. We must work to re-establish the integrity of our piece of the flag so that the surrounding towns will see our example and maintain the integrity of their thread as well. In this way each small town does their part to strengthen the Country as a whole. Every individual has the opportunity to enhance the strength of their piece of thread by acting altruistically and in the interest of the Country. One act of kindness can be enough to set a chain of events in motion that can change someone’s perspective and motivate them to be a positive influence in the lives of others.
